Wonder Pets!: Join the Circus

If you have a kid (or even if you don't), you've probably heard of Wonder Pets. Wonder Pets! is an exciting Nick Jr. show for preschoolers. Each episode follows the adventures of three classroom pets--Linny the Guinea Pig, Ming-Ming Duckling, and Turtle Tuck--who travel around the globe helping to rescue animals who need their help. Like real preschoolers, these three unlikely heroes don't have any actual super powers, but by working together they can conquer any obstacle: "What's gonna work? Teamwork!"

The show features photo-puppetry animation--an animation style created specifically for this series--which allows the animators to manipulate photos of real animals. The result is striking, memorable, and truly unique. Each episode is like a mini-opera with dialog often sung to an original score by some of Broadway's top composers. And each episode encourages teamwork, empathy, problem-solving skills, and an appreciation of music and humor.

In Join The Circus!,” it’s summer vacation and the Wonder Pets rescue a young circus lion named Cubby from falling off a circus train. The Penguin Ringmaster is so impressed with the Wonder Pets that he offers them jobs at the circus! However, there is one catch:  the team will have to split up and do separate acts.  Linny is unsure but accepts the offer when she sees how much it means to Tuck and Ming-Ming. When Cubby and his friends Baby Panda and Baby Monkey get stuck on the high wire during a performance, the Wonder Pets reunite to rescue them. In the end, the Wonder Pets decide to return to their classroom, where they can work as a team again to rescue animals in trouble.

The excitement continues with a week of brand-new episodes Monday, March 16 – Friday, March 20, featuring guest voiceovers from Anne Meara, Jerry Stiller and Ben Vereen.

The schedule for The Wonder Pets! premiere week is as follows (all times are ET/PT):
  • Monday, March 16 (10:00 a.m.): “The Adventures of Bee & Slug” -- Little Bee and Slug accidentally take the Flyboat for a ride that quickly gets out of control.
  • Tuesday, March 17 (10:00 a.m.): “Save The Old White Mouse!” -- Features Jerry Stiller as Old White Mouse and Anne Meara as Ginny.  The Wonder Pets travel to Linny’s grandmother Ginny’s local nursing home to rescue an Old White Mouse who’s stuck in a cuckoo clock.
  • Wednesday, March 18 (10:00 a.m.): “Save The Glowworm!” -- The Wonder Pets help a Little Glowworm discover what she’s good at – glowing!
  • Thursday, Mar. 19 (10:00 a.m.): “Save The Hound Dog!” -- The Wonder Pets travel to Memphis to save a Baby Hound Dog in a mansion who is stuck inside a jukebox.
  • Friday, March 20 (10:00 a.m.): “Save The Rat Pack!”-- Features Ben Vereen as voice of Sammy.  The Wonder Pets travel to Las Vegas to assist three performing Rats who are having trouble working together on their song and dance routine. / “Save The Fiddler Crab!” – Features music by Jerry Bock, the original composer for Fiddler On The Roof.  The Wonder Pets journey to a small village in Russia to save a Fiddler Crab on the roof of a small house.
Nick Jr.’s award-winning website (www.nickjr.com) will feature an interactive game and activities to complement the premiere of “Join The Circus!” NickJr.com will feature “The Wonder Pets Join The Circus” game, where kids can go online and join the act by spelling out words with seals, getting penguin clowns to the show and helping orangutans perform on the trapeze. Nickjr.com will also feature circus-themed printables, crafts, activities and more.

Socket-Lockits Review

Photobucket

As any Parent knows, children have a magnetic attraction to all things dangerous and harmful. This is especially true of electrical sockets. I don't know about you, but in our home those pesky sockets are all at a low level. Which means Kiddo was eyeing them long before he could even crawl! Before long we were compelled to go to one of those huge Baby Superstores where we got about a ton of those conventional plastic socket protectors as Kiddo grew increasingly interested in touching them.

I'm not saying the conventional protectors didn't work. They did - to a certain extent, at least initially. But once you start pulling them off to say, plug in the vacuum cleaner, and then put them back in, they begin to lose their effectiveness. With repeated use, they grow increasingly looser and soon even a baby's curious fingers are able to pluck them out with relative ease. And the first thing babies do after plucking one out - yes, put it right in their mouths. Now you have a chocking hazard to worry about!

Thankfully there's an innovative solution available - The Socket-Lockits!

Socket-Lockits™ help reduce electrical and choking hazards in your home. Socket-Lockits' unique patent-pending design incorporates:
  • Self-locking barbs to prevent tiny fingers from pulling covers off
  • A convenient pressure-button release to make removal easy for adults
  • A variety of designs printed with non-toxic ink to match any décor
Socket-Lockits can also be customized with just about anything imaginable—from fabric to photos—to match all your product lines.

I received a cute pair of Doggy Socket-Lockits which I immediately put to use in Kiddo's room. The Doggy design wowed him! Once he got over being fascinated by them, as usual, Kiddo set about trying to pry them out. Fortunately, this is one ingenious solution that is easy for the Parent's fingers (as it requires a little bit of maneuvering) while proving next to impossible to even the most determined Toddler hands. Whew! Now that's a load off my mind.

BUY IT! You can find Socket-Lockits at a variety of stores, a list of which can be found here - http://www.socketlockits.com/wheretopurchase.html

Buckley Boo - Review

When I was a new mother I was always scrambling to keep my active little one entertained. This wasn't always an easy task, I can tell you! My son would get into everything "no-no" and all the expensive toys I'd bought were glanced over and then rejected in favor of something like Daddy's new leather belt - much to mine and Hubby's dismay!

Thankfully that might not be the case with Baby #2! For I recently came across something stellar and it’s called BuckleyBoo - a (17" or 12") stuffed bear, cat, dog, or bunny in a variety of colors with brightly colored ribbons and three different plastic buckles across the tummy area for tiny fingers and young minds to explore!

Co-created by a child psychologist/grandma, BuckleyBoo helps children develop fine motor, visual, and spatial skills as they continually practice matching, buckling and eventually unbuckling the BuckleyBoo collection.

Even now, as an active toddler, Kiddo was interested enough to check out this soft, cuddly and colorful doll. The buckles were somewhat of a challenge, but he soon mastered them. And then he enjoyed himself fastening and unfastening them, over and over again. After which he started mixing and matching them which was fun for him. Seeing him so peacefully occupied, I began to wish I had the BuckleyBoo when he was a baby at which stage this would have kept him occupied for hours. Still, he was occupied for a whole half an hour which was a miracle in itself and I'm thankful for that!

BUY IT! Visit http://www.buckleyboo.com.

More than Camp: CampParents.org the Resource for Families

Did you know that the American Camp Association® (ACA) is one of the nation's leading child and youth development resources? For nearly a century, ACA has worked to promote exceptional programs – providing children and adults the opportunity to learn powerful lessons in community, character-building, skill development, and healthy living. Additionally, ACA works closely with other youth-serving organizations and associations.

As part of ACA's continued commitment to give parents and families the best possible information, CampParents.org is ACA's parent resource Web site. This site includes:
  1. Expert Advice – CampParents.org provides families with expert advice on child development and parent-child relationships in addition to camp-related advice such as the benefits of camp, coping with homesickness, and preparing a first-time camper. With information broken down by age group, parents can review developmental milestones, what is "on their child's mind," relationship building tips, and advice on how to get the most out of the camp experience.
  2. Camp e-News – Through CampParents.org, parents can sign-up to receive Camp e-News, ACA's bi-monthly parent e-newsletter on child and youth development, the camp experience, and timely issues concerning today's families. Archived issues of Camp e-News are also available on the site.
  3. Children and Nature Resources – CampParents.org offers parents and families insight into the importance of a first-hand relationship with nature, online environmental resources, and family fun activities to "get green."
  4. Healthy Kids and Teens Information – Families can access information on health and safety issues such as bullying, sun safety, avoiding and treating poison ivy and poison oak, developing healthy lifestyles, and teen specific issues such as driving safety, information on underage drinking and drug use, and online safety.
  5. Información en Español – CampParents.org is translated for parents and families who are more comfortable reading and searching for information in their primary language. This includes all developmental information, expert advice, and the ultimate camp planner. The entire site has been translated – providing non-English speaking families, or English as a second language families, with the same beneficial resource information.
  6. Camp Planning and Search – Of course, this resource would not be complete without the ultimate camp planner and ACA's Find A Camp searchable database. By using these camp resources, families can find the perfect camp experience, see research and information on the benefits and essential quality of camp to a child's development, visit camp Web sites, find information on financial assistance, and read helpful camp tips.
About ACA

The American Camp Association® (ACA) works to preserve, promote, and enhance the camp experience for children and adults. ACA-Accredited® camp programs ensure that children are provided with a diversity of educational and developmentally challenging learning opportunities. Creating Perfect Spring Photo Mementos and Gifts

Spring is the ideal season to snap that perfect family picture.  The warmer months are filled with holiday-related opportunities such as Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, when adults and children are dressed in their best outfits, creating perfect opportunities to capture a great photo. With advances in digital cameras and digital printing, even the most amateur photographer can produce archival quality photos with a few simple tips in mind.

Simple Tips for Special Spring Shots:
  1. The Early Bird Catches the Worm. In this case, the early photographer catches the complimenting light. During Spring, early morning sun or early evening as the sunsets is the ideal time to capture soft, natural lighting that is most flattering. To keep the sun from causing squinting, it is best to position family members with the light source behind or slightly to the side of faces.

  2. Stick with Solid Simplicity. Selecting suitable backgrounds is essential. Stick with simple and uncluttered backgrounds for the cleanest shots, and take advantage of Spring’s fresh flowers as a seasonal prop. Similarly, coordinate the clothing colors of family members. Solid colors are a safe bet, and stay away from strips, dots and designs that clash or distract.

  3. Natural and Non-traditional Makes it Memorable. In many cases, the most comfortable shots are often candid. The easiest way to accomplish this comfort is to have family members interact with one another. Chatting, laughing, silly shots and soft actions, such as wrapping arms around each other, puts families at ease and that comes through in photos.

  4. Always Be Prepared for That Perfect Impromptu Photo. Keeping a digital camera or camera-enabled cell phone readily available means never missing those perfect and often unplanned opportunities to capture a great photo of children creating a Mother’s or Father’s Day gift from scratch or participating in an Easter Egg hunt. This simple tip will often prove to be most rewarding.

This feature story was created by RPI, Inc. (www.rpiprint.com), the West Coast's largest digital printer and the fulfillment partner of many ecommerce stores.

Choosing a babysitter?

If you are looking for a babysitter or daycare provider, nothing is more important than feeling secure with your decision.

Obviously, choosing a babysitter can be a very difficult, time-consuming task. A definite must should be a background check of any candidates. In the golden age of online transparency, parents don't even have to invest 40 dollars per background check but simply use a free Facebook tool called TrueScoop that delivers the same insights on any public records as a $500 dollar version...

TrueScoop will give parents FREE access to criminal records, DUIs, larceny charges or petty theft, providing the security of know that you're not entrusting your kids with a criminal or alcoholic.
Additionally, it can pull up all sorts of additional information, ranging from criminal history, to location history, and even money owed or owed to them. After some experimentation, it's interesting to find out who has a record and who doesn't.

Check it out for yourself today! http://apps.facebook.com/truescoop/

The Dysfunctional Father's Guide to Pregnancy Birth and Babies

The Dysfunctional Father's Guide to Pregnancy Birth and Babies ~ XY
120 pages, Bridgeross Communications, ISBN-10: 0981003737
Whether you’re a first-time dad, a repeat offender, or just someone who wants to know what men really think about fatherhood, this is the book for you. Dysfunctional Father’s is the first and only how-to-book written specially for “Dysfunctional Fathers” — fathers who do not watch Oprah or Dr. Phil and who know little (and care even less) about the inner workings of the female anatomy or psyche. Fathers who keep their emotions bottled up inside where they belong and who, while polite, caring, loyal and kind to their wives, still enjoy the occasional trip to the strip club, the occasional drinking binge and the occasional loud fart.

Fathers who, like the book and its authors, are politically incorrect — and proud of it. The Dysfunctional Father’s Guide to Pregnancy, Birth and Babies is a self-help book that pulls no punches. It is crass (at times), offensive (at least to women), and uniquely informative (at least to men). Rather than tell fathers how to be supportive during pregnancy and labor, it tells fathers how to avoid sex during pregnancy and how to sneak out for a cigarette during labor. Rather than tell fathers how to change diapers and be a compassionate parent, it tells fathers how to avoid changing diapers and how to enjoy being a father while their wives do all the heavy lifting. It tells fathers what they really want (and need) to know about being a parent but were afraid to ask.

My Thoughts - Just so we're clear, this is a book that's meant for Men. But women can and should read it, if only to have a reason to smile. The author(s) have a tongue-in-cheek way of writing that manages to find humor in even the direst of situations (or so thinks my female/Mommy/nurturing brain). But there's a gem of truth hidden in the verbal comedy and that's also something we shouldn't forget. And yes, when you do realize that truth, the smile... it isn't there any more. Just keep that in mind.
